Why this procedure?

Even if you’ve had a weak chin your whole life, you probably haven’t realized that it alters your facial appearance tremendously. It may cause your neck to appear fleshy or it may accentuate your nose, and there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t correct all that and get a better profile if you can do it in one simple procedure.

People underestimate the power of a good chin, but sometimes it’s all they need to bring harmony to their facial features and balance their whole facial structure.

What happens during the chin augmentation procedure?

In this procedure, our experienced surgeons make an incision under the chin or inside the lower lip. Then, they make a small pocket, in which the implant will be carefully placed, making sure it is well attached to the bone so as to leave no imperfections and avoid any visible scars.

There are different sizes of implants. Your surgeon will recommend which implant size is the best option for you, to improve the balance on your face.

A defined chin and attractive facial profile is an exciting thing, but it does require some care. After the surgery, you’ll be asked to rest for a whole day and you may need to go into a soft-food diet for a few days. It is normal for discomfort, pain, bruising and/or swelling to appear during the first days after the surgery, but the medication prescribed by your surgeon will help you control it. Your chin may feel numb and tight weeks after the surgery, but with time it’ll feel normal again.

Also, if any suture, bandage or compression garment were applied, a) they’ll dissolve naturally, b) they’ll have to be removed by your cosmetic surgeon or c) you may remove them yourself when he says it’s time; it depends on the case.

Don’t forget to follow your surgeon’s instructions and to attend every one of your appointments. We need to work as a team to achieve the ultimate results.

(It is important to note that recovery specifications may vary depending on the procedure and the patient; our medical staff will walk you through the details of your recovery process.)

When can I resume my normal activities?

You’ll be able to return to your normal daily activities 1 week after the surgery. For exercise routines and other physical activities, you’ll have to wait 4 weeks.

Can I get a tan?

It is very important to avoid long sun exposure for a considerable amount of time after the surgery to prevent pigmentation on the scars. Depending on the procedure, you’ll doctor will tell you exactly for how long you must avoid this.

Should I consider a specific time of the year to do my procedure?

Depending on the chosen procedure, some recoveries do better on winter, while others do better on the summer time. Ask your doctor for the option that better suits your case. You should also consider periods of time in which you’ll have time to relax, like the holidays, for example.
